Hello, I´m Lois

Welcome to my website

I’m a Toronto-based acrylic and mixed-media artist and I combine, colour, texture, and collage to create vibrant pieces of art. In one of my earliest childhood memories a teacher told me that “we must always colour within the lines.” I had no idea how impactful those words would be, but they were hugely stifling. Fortunately, I found a career I loved, and as an elementary school teacher my creativity bubbled over. I intentionally taught my students that anything goes when it comes to creating art. No rules required. And though I truly believed this, it took me many years to get there in my own art.

In 2003, I enrolled in a watercolour class and rediscovered how much I loved to create. I realized that through painting, my inner child could come out to play. I began to add in acrylic and mixed media techniques. Though my initial work was mostly in landscapes, floral and cityscape design, my current passion is abstract painting. The more I paint, the more I realize how much it frees my spirit. With vibrant colours and creative free-flow technique, my imagination and spirituality come to life on canvass. My love of travel and nature continue to inspire my work, and my goal is to evoke feelings of freedom and playfulness through all of my pieces.

Over the years I’ve continued my art education, learning skills and techniques from a variety of teachers. I’ve created a beautiful home art studio that functions as a work and play space as well as a gallery for all my work. My work has appeared in several art shows.

When the COVID pandemic hit, I felt stifled and bored and sad. Thankfully after a few months I realized that I had something at my fingertips that could bring me joy and occupy my time. I’ve begun taking virtual classes, experimenting with new styles, and learning from artists across the globe via social media. The more I learn, the more excited I get, and I’m so thankful to have a creative outlet during these challenging times.
I’ve begun using Instagram and Facebook to share my work and gather feedback – it’s been such a fun experience to connect with others online.
Because I’ve been creating so much and my work is meant to spread joy, I’ve decided to share my art at affordable prices. I believe original art brings life and energy to our homes and workplaces and I want to share that with as many people as possible. My desire is that my work lifts your spirit and inspires your own creativity.

If you see something you like on my website or would like to have a virtual tour of my home gallery I’d love to hear from you.

Please get in touch and have a beautiful, colour-filled day.
